Ismail Keyboard Layout Upd [patched] May 2026
The Ismail Keyboard Layout UPD: Redefining the Way We Type
balanced finger usage
The Ismail UPD shines in — no single finger exceeds 12% of total key presses, compared to Dvorak’s right pinky overuse or Colemak’s E on the left middle finger.
- Microsoft Word RTL Glitch: When pressing Ctrl+Z (Undo) immediately after typing a diacritic, Word sometimes reverses the character order. The fix is to save the document first.
- Android/iOS Missing: The UPD is currently desktop-only. There is no official Gboard or SwiftKey plugin yet (though the developer hints at a 2025 mobile release).
- QQ/WeChat Conflict: On Chinese social apps running on Windows, the layout may revert to English. Disable the "Auto Input Method Switcher" in those apps.
- Minimize same-finger bigrams (using the same finger for two consecutive letters).
- Maximize hand alternation (alternating between left and right hands).
- Prioritize the home row (keeping the most common letters on ASDF and JKL;).
