QCN (Qualcomm Calibration Network): This is the standard file format used by tools to store NV items. An NV Reader/Writer usually exports/imports .qcn files.
QPST (Qualcomm Product Support Tools): The industry-standard software suite. The "EFS Explorer" and "NV Tools" within QPST are the original readers/writers.
** Miracle Box / GSM Aladdin / Infinity CM2:** These are third-party "all-in-one" tools popular in mobile repair shops. They have "NV Read/Write" buttons that automate the process without needing deep technical knowledge of specific item numbers.
The Problem: If the NV partition gets corrupted (due to a bad flash, wrong firmware, or physical damage), the phone will show "Unknown" or "Null" for the IMEI. This results in no cellular signal (No Service).
The Solution: An NV tool can read a backup from another device or write a known good value to restore the IMEI and bring the modem back to life.
Always write to a test device first. Do not experiment on your daily driver.
In the "Write" tab, enter the NV Item ID.
Input the new value (usually in HEX without spaces, e.g., A1000000F207...).
Check "Update Checksum" (if available).
Click "Write" and wait for confirmation.
Power cycle the phone (reboot) for changes to take effect.
