Sas — 9.4m8
SAS 9.4M8
Released in January 2023, (TS1M8) is primarily focused on modernization and security infrastructure. While it doesn't introduce a vast array of new analytical procedures, its "interesting content" lies in the massive architectural shift to more modern, secure, and flexible third-party components . Key Modernization & Security Changes
- Audit your current environment: Run
PROC SETINIT to list all licensed products. Ensure they are eligible for M8 (most are, except legacy 32-bit components).
- Download the software: From the SAS Support Portal (requires a valid maintenance contract). Look for "SAS 9.4 Foundation M8 for [Your OS]".
- Back up everything: Metadata Server repositories, SAS Content Server, configuration files (
sasv9.cfg).
- Test in a sandbox: Never upgrade production first. Use a virtual machine identical to production.
- Run the SAS Deployment Manager: Choose "Apply Maintenance Updates" and point to the M8 disk image. Follow the prompts.
- Validate post-upgrade: Run the SAS Validation Suite (
vali.exe on Windows, validate script on Linux). Check logs for errors.
- Update end-user clients: SAS Display Manager (the classic Windows client) does not need updating, but SAS Enterprise Guide users should upgrade to EG 8.4 (or later) for best M8 support.
- Cloud-based Storage: Integration with popular cloud storage services, such as Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage
- Big Data Platforms: Support for big data platforms, like Hadoop and Spark
- Database Connectivity: Enhanced connectivity to various databases, including relational and NoSQL databases
To facilitate that, M8 includes:
