At 11:58 PM, the Barricades fall. The Disc Launchers run out of coasters. The Millenium Bug reaches the final choke point: the town’s water tower, which is really a disguised relay station for the Eastern Standard Time server.
This is the holy grail. On Battle.net, players created "Turret Defense" maps using the StarCraft (1998) and Warcraft III (2002) map editors. These maps define the Y2K TD look: y2k tower defense
- The CRT Mortar: High splash damage, slow rate of fire. It fires "pixels." When it hits, the enemy sprite flashes white and resets its animation timer. Essential for dealing with "Glitch Hounds."
- The Floppy Barricade: Cheap, expendable, but weak. You line the path with these. They act as roadblocks, but each time an enemy hits one, you hear the mechanical crunch of a disk drive breaking.
- The AOL Disk Launcher (Controversial): This tower fires physical trial discs. High damage, but it fills your "Spam Inbox" resource bar. If the Spam bar fills, your towers stop shooting to download a screensaver.
